“Winter’s Bone” Movie- B.

Long story short, an impoverished teen goes on a heroic journey to find her father, dead or alive, in order to save her family from losing their house and land. Although the protagonist, Ree, sets off to do a very noble task and is portrayed to be a compassionate sister, the movie deals with a lot of negative adult themes such as drugs and uses a lot of profanity. Therefore, Winter’s Bone is definitely not recommended for a “family movie night” pick. The movie does not have any happy moments, and the majority of the film is focused on the negative aspects of Ree’s life, such as the poverty, hunger, drugs, missing father, etc. If you are looking for a depressing movie, by all means watch Winter’s Bone. However, if you are looking for a more positive and uplifting movie, I do not suggest this one. While some positive themes are portrayed, such as bravery and love for family, they are far outnumbered by the amount of sad and troubling themes. Overall, this movie is a B. It was intense, but lacked enough positive moments to balance out the intensity of the movie.
